January 18, 2022. Attorney General Yost Asks FDA to Protect State Regulation of Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids.

“'There need to be affordable options for Ohioans who need hearing assistance, but some of the ‘aids’ out there are nothing more than a decorative ear piece,' Yost said. 'The states’ ability to protect consumers with things such as warranties, refunds and exchanges is vital and these new rules could prevent that.'”

January 14, 2022. NAAG Responds to FDA’s Comment Request on New Over-The-Counter Hearing Aid Rules

“In response to a request for comments from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding new rules regulating over-the-counter hearing aids, NAAG submitted comments encouraging the FDA to take the below steps to ensure that states maintain a role as regulators in this emerging market.”

“There are a lot of options for Ohioans that need hearing assistance, but quite honestly some of these products are not much better than putting your hand up behind your ear,” Yost said. “Be careful and do your research so you don’t add a money loss to a hearing loss."
