January 14, 2022. NAAG Responds to FDA’s Comment Request on New Over-The-Counter Hearing Aid Rules
“In response to a request for comments from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding new rules regulating over-the-counter hearing aids, NAAG submitted comments encouraging the FDA to take the below steps to ensure that states maintain a role as regulators in this emerging market.”

This measure requires a hearing instrument specialist or an audiologist to inform a potential purchaser about the operation and benefits of hearing aids with features, such as telecoils, that can provide a direct connection between the hearing aid and an assistive listening system and provide on the receipt after purchase of hearing aid that the purchaser has verified that they have been informed of the above information and received a demonstration of said hearing aid.
This measure takes effect on the first day of the fourth month after publication.
